Welcome to the 2021 Minnesota State Convention!
Just this morning, Governor Tim Walz announced a slackening of the restrictions and the Holiday Inn is currently limited to 50% capacity in the Event space. This allows for 225 persons, but when the applies the rules on social distancing this results in about 165. Subtracting numbers for State Officers, and possible guests, we can plan for no more than 150 delegates to attend “in person”.
So, this has forced us to make some tough decisions. Obviously, there will be room for only Delegates at any of the meals or meetings, so we will be suggesting that you do not bring families with you, and there will be no “Ladies Event”. There may also be no room for District Deputies and membership and program staff, GAs, or PSDs to attend in person, but we may be able to offer invitations to these, if there is sufficient space after Delegates have had their opportunity.
To accomplish this, we are inviting each council to have one Delegate attend “in person” and one Delegate virtually, or two Delegates virtually. The Second Delegate registration will allow the request of an “in person” attendance if space allows. If the limit of 200 “in person” first Delegates is reached, we will add the names of any first Delegates wishing to attend in person to a waiting list.
If restrictions are relaxed, or if there is space as we approach the date of the convention, we will invite additional Delegates to attend in person, starting with the First Delegate waiting list and then the Second Delegate requests in the order received, so register early.
All others are welcome to join our meetings “Virtually” using Zoom or whatever system is recommended by Supreme, and both in-person and virtual delegates will have a vote. We will be sending out links to all registered Delegates before the meeting. It will be an improvement over last year in that we will at least have a video component for virtual attendees.
As usual, the State Council will reimburse all attendee Delegates for their mileage and the cost of the Saturday evening Banquet. This will be calculated by the State Secretary after the event, and checks will be sent to the Council.
